Watford Today is an independent news and information site for Watford and south west Hertfordshire. We work from public records, we link to them, and we are not connected to any of the councils involved.
Three councils, one future
Watford Borough Council covers the town and is run by a directly elected mayor. Three Rivers District Council covers Rickmansworth, Chorleywood, Abbots Langley, Croxley Green and South Oxhey. Hertsmere Borough Council covers Borehamwood, Bushey, Radlett and Potters Bar. Today that means three planning registers, three bin arrangements and three sets of car park charges, and we name the right one in every story. From April 2028 the three are due to be merged into a single South West Hertfordshire unitary authority, which is why we cover them together.
What we report
Each council’s planning register and committee papers, licensing notices, police.uk crime data, HM Land Registry sold prices, Food Standards Agency hygiene ratings, Environment Agency flood warnings for the Colne, the Gade and the Chess, and company filings in The Gazette. Hertfordshire County Council runs roads, schools and social care across all three districts until the reorganisation takes effect.
How we work
Every fact is tied to a named source and linked, so you can read the original. Where a record is ambiguous we say so rather than picking the more interesting reading. Plain British English, no press releases printed as reporting, and no photographs taken from other outlets.
